"The modest, tall structure of Saint Salvator dates back in the 10th century"

Although Sint-Salvator's Cathedral is Bruge's oldest church (12th-15th century), it is not one of the most impressive ones. It hosts many works of art that were originally stored in the Sint-Donatius Cathedral, which is now destroyed.

Amongst its treasures, you can find a rood loft with organs, medieval tombs, Brussels tapest ries and a rich collection of 14th century Flemish paintings.

The modest, tall structure of Saint Salvator dates back in the 10th century and still remains the main church of Bruges. It has not always been a cathedral though, as it used to be a common parish church. But in the 19th century, after Belgium's independence, the new Bishop of Bruges gave it the status of cathedral and added the tower to make it more impressive.
