"The modest, tall structure of Saint Salvator dates back in the 10th century"

Although Sint-Salvator's Cathedral is Bruge's oldest church (12^th-15^th century), it is not one of the most impressive ones. It hosts many works of art that were originally stored in the Sint-Donatius Cathedral, which is now destroyed.

Amongst its treasures, you can find a rood loft with organs, medieval tombs, Brussels tapest ries and a rich collection of 14^th century Flemish paintings.

The modest, tall structure of Saint Salvator dates back in the 10^th century and still remains the main church of Bruges. It has not always been a cathedral though, as it used to be a common parish church. But in the 19^th century, after Belgium's independence, the new Bishop of Bruges gave it the status of cathedral and added the tower to make it more impressive.
