"The small city has a big past; brave and prosperous."

The city's stunning buildings are evident of Ypres' prosperity and wealth during the Medieval ages, as it used to be an international center for cloth trading. Nowadays, it is a small city of around 40,000 habitants.

The city witnessed three major First World War battles, the most famous being the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. A reminder of the Ypres' troubled past lies in its entrance with the memorial monument dedicated to those lost in battle. A lot of visitors come to pay respect to the brave Belgians.
