"Simple in its exterior appearance even though huge & gloomy dark inside."

The 12th century Roman Catholic Avignon Cathedral, is an example of Romanesque architecture. Although large in scale, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon, is modest in its exterior appearance and gloomy dark in the interior.

The imposing golden statue of Virgin Mary on top of the western tower and the Goth mausoleum of Pope John XXII are its most interesting elements. There is also a Crucifixion sculpture scene on the outside.
