"If you are in Cologne with a family you have to do this animal kingdom."

The Cologne zoo is located quite near the city center close to the bridge, which is unusual considering that most city zoos are further away from the buzz. That said, they still managed to gather all sorts of wet and dry animals such as seals, penguins, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, elephants, jaguars, lions, bears, zebras, flamingos etc. They should keep the kids busy. If not, there is also a playground and a tropical forest area.

You can get a Cologne zoo discount ticket if you combine it with the Aquarium and a funicular ride. Be patient if you go in high season, as they tend to have long lines. There is also a little train that travels along the promenade of the river and can take you to and from the cathedral in the center.
