"Green and huge, not your typical Gothic structure."

The National Basilica of the Sacred Heart also known as Koekelberg Basilica, is a Roman Catholic Minor Basilica and parish church in Brussels. It is situated in the Parc Elisabeth (take the metro till Simonis, and then walk through the park) on the Koekelberg Hill in Brussels' Koekelberg municipality.

The huge, strange colored brick and concrete reinforced church has 2 thin towers and a green copper dome, not your typical Gothic structure. It also has some amazing views of the city from the top if you take the elevator up.

Two museums, that only open a few days a week, are also housed there. The Musée des Sœurs Noires (museum of the black sisters) (Wednesday 2-4 p.m.) and the Musée d'Art moderne religieux (museum of religious modern art) (Thursdays, Fridays & Sundays 2-4 p.m.).

Parking is free if you go by car, since it is a bit far from the center.
