"Out of Vatican Archbasilica, ranking above even St. Peter's Basilica."

Although the Papal Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is located outside the Vatican City territory, it is the main Papal Basilica in Rome, the Archbasilica, ranking even above the world famous St. Peter's Basilica. After an architecture competition won by Galilei in 1735, its façade changed from the traditional ancient basilica architecture, into the neo-classical exterior that it is today. In the interior there is a glorious golden roof with paintings and twelve big statues of the Apostles decorating the niches.
